Porto Moniz Natural Swimming Pools

They’re volcanic rock formations naturally filled with clear seawater, creating safe swimming areas surrounded by dramatic black lava cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean. It’s one of the island’s most famous attractions, perfect for relaxing, swimming, and enjoying the unique scenery.

Fanal Forest

Fanal is famous for its ancient, twisted laurel trees often surrounded by mist, creating a mysterious and almost otherworldly atmosphere. It’s a popular place for hiking, photography, and simply enjoying the calm beauty of Madeira’s highlands.

Noite do Mercado

Madeira’s Christmas Market in Funchal lights up Avenida Arriaga with festive stalls, local foods, crafts, and music throughout December. The highlight is Noite do Mercado on December 23rd, when the city comes alive with late-night shopping, traditional drinks, and joyful celebrations.

Carros de Cesto

In Madeira, you can ride the famous wicker toboggans, known as Carros de Cesto. Guided by two drivers in traditional dress, these sledges glide from Monte down to Funchal — a fun and unique island tradition dating back to the 19th century.

Casas de Colmo

The Casas de Colmo are traditional thatched houses found mainly in Santana, Madeira. They have a triangular shapewith steep straw roofs that almost reach the ground, whitewashed walls, and brightly painted doors and windows. Originally built as homes for local farmers, these charming huts are now a symbol of Madeira’s cultural heritage and a popular spot for tourists to explore and take photos.
